I run Windows 2000 SP4; 800mhz PIII; 512meg mem. A real old machine with real old
and small components.
I can point to two different OpenGL applications that render panoramic images. They
both run well and fast on my machine with no problems and in one case, use a third of the
CPU that DirectX uses.
I am not sure of the plans for OpenGL (JOGL) for the JRE and plugin2 but I think -- given
what I've seen on my machine -- that OpenGL as a general purpose API for graphics is
a big win. It blows the socks off Java2D. And it
makes my little panorama viewer suck big time. The only
future for my viewer is a rapid conversion to OpenGL.
So where do I start learning JOGL? I've just scanned the
JOGL project page. I haven't done any OpenGL programming
for about 10 years. Is there a step by step tutorial
somewhere that I can use to get started again?
The first thing I need to know is how to set up my development
environment to allow compiling a JOGL applet. How do I
