I'm developing an application that needs to create an interactive overlay. I want to provide 'live' suggestions to my user in an overlay-style. Here is an example:-
The user is typing in a text box and as they type a background thread tries to guess what they are typing. There will typically be several 'best guesses' and I want to be able to display them around the text box in an overlay. When the user sees one than they like, they can click it with a mouse that then autofills the text box.
I was wondering what the best method would be for this, building a custom glass pane with mouse event handlers to see if they're "over one of the suggestions" or using a JXLayer to do the same.
Is it doable and what are your thoughts?
Thanks very much,
P.s it would be nice to add animations to the overlay at a later date
