I'm using Plugin version 1.6.0_10-b33 on Windows XP [pro] 5.1
The longer that I use it, the slower it becomes. It has to do with java caching. I have the control panel set up to do unlimited caching.
Since I am an applet developer, I spend my day building jars, typing "x" to clear memory cache in java plugin console, reloading my applet from a Tomcat server, and finally testing my changes.
I find that the initial load of the applet becomes slower as the day progresses.
If I open the main Java Control Panel (Start->Control Panel->Java) and clear the disk cache, my applets load SUPER fast initially and then begin to degrade from there.
It could be that my disk drive is slow or whatever, but I do run Diskeeper defragmentation daily and it has an automatic defragmentation option that is enabled.
This enhancement request is simply to add a new command, "d: delete disk cache / clear classloader cache", to the Java plugin console. When "d" is typed, the disk and memory caches would be deleted.
I've already opened bug 6717198 for this issue ( http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6717198 ), and I think it is related to sun.plugin2.main.client.PluginMain slowly eating memory.
Please consider adding this enhancement as it would greatly speed up the development cycle for Java applet developers.
