I just had to recognized that Sun has dropped their JavaComm reference implementation for Windows! The JavaComm page now reads:
Implementations of the API are currently available for Solaris SPARC, Solaris x86, and Linux x86.
and there is of course no trace of a download for Windows any more. This leaves the largest computing platform in the world without a standard Java API for accessing serial interfaces (yes, I know RxTx, but that one is not a standard API). Programmers will love it that they now have to change their programs ASAP to use some other API, because users can't even get an older API implementation any more.
Congratulations Sun, for making that decision. Abso-fscking-lutely unbelievable.
