A good number of times when I've been asked about the module facility (NBM) in the NetBeans Platform, I've been also asked whether there is compatibility with OSGi modules (which, BTW, are the technology used by Eclipse Platform). Some times the customer isn't really interested in OSGi-specific stuff (NetBeans' modules have the same features), but he has heard about OSGi in some other places (while NBMs are specific to NetBeans) and he's worried about a strategic choice. Usually - in my personal experience - NetBeans is preferred over Eclipse for Swing compatibility, but a big doubt remains and, of course, so far the answer to the question has been that NBMs and OSGi are two different worlds.
Well, today Geertjan (in his 200th DZone post) has officially disclosed some details about "netigso" , which is - you bet - about integrating OSGi with NetBeans. It's work in progress, but the bridge has been opened. Be sure to read the wiki pages pointed by Geertjan for more information.
