An enlightening posting from Don MacAskill at SmugMug tells the details.
Check out this blog: Success with OpenSolaris + ZFS + MySQL in production! by Don MacAskill at SmugMug. It discusses his favorable impressions from running MySQL on OpenSolaris in production and concurrently benefiting from the volume and file-system management capabilities offered by ZFS .
To quote MacAskill, "[ZFS] is pure heaven to work with. This is how file systems should have always been. The commands to create, manage, and extend pools are so simple and logical you basically don’t even need man pages." Coming from a self-proclaimed "Linux geek," that's high praise indeed.
