What should you do if the BOF you want to attent in the Argent Hotel is full?
As the track lead for the desktop track this year I had the responsibility of scheduling the Sessions and BOFs. The exercise is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle as you try to fit 19 BOFS into 12 time slots over three days. The trick is to avoid conflicts as much as possible and book an appropriate sized room.
This year at JavaOne they've instituted a new requirement that you have to sign up in advance for sessions and bofs. Unfortunately all the BOFS in Argent hotel on Tuesday night were full about three weeks ago.
So what do you do if the BOF you want to attend is already full? Well the truth is the sessions will deny entry if you haven't signed up and they are full, but the BOFs won't have the same restriction. So I recommend that you just show up to the BOF.
This is first time that we've tried this sign up thing and quite honestly we don't have the foggiest idea what is the right number of seats to reserve. Do we reserve the exact number of seats or should we anticipate a certain number of no shows like the airlines does. We went with the exact number of seats for both sessions and BOFs
I can tell you that as the desktop track lead I will try to accommodate everyone that wants to go to a BOF. This means that if I have to repeat a BOF I'll do my best to reschedule a repeat. Other than that I don't have much choice as space is limited this year, especially on Tuesday nights at the 7:30 and 8:30 slots.
