I am unable to render some GIF images on the OCAP platform. You can try to load this image in your application, http://www.google.co.in/images/hp1.gif and http://www.google.co.in/images/hp3.gif. These dont come up in our application. In fact if I transform this to a JPEG image then hAVI is able to render it. Again this is not the case for other GIF images, there are only some that have the problem.

Is this a known issue?

I have had some issue with getting the file to be found, within the havi toolkit/things. Basically the old trick of using a getResource and trusting it to be found somewhere within the package. Rather I've had to have the image be relative to the class it's loaded from, even though I'm using getResource.

I haven't investigated much with it.

I don't know, but does OCAP guarantee GIF rendering? I wouldn't be at all surprised if it didn't, due to the CompuServe/GIF wars of decades past. Try a PNG.

OCAP is fully compliant with MHP1.0.3 Section 7.1.1.4 which requires support for GIF 89a formatted images. If you believe that there is a bug in the RI, please file a bug in IssueTracker and be sure to attach the offending image.

Yeah, I have raised the bug in OCAP-RI issue tracker. I have also mentioned the URL from where you can get the GIF Image.
