FYI:

I forked a BSD-only version that don't implement any of the
javax.media.jai stuff from jai-core [1], and don't include the
codecLibJIIO implementations.

I believe this should make the library fully BSD shareable, if not as
complete as the original, it can do these file types:

[raw, BMP, JPEG2000, RAW, jpeg, tif, WBMP, jpeg2000, GIF, TIF, TIFF,
jpg, bmp, PNM, JPG, pnm, wbmp, png, JPEG, PNG, jpeg 2000, gif, JPEG
2000, tiff]

See jai-imageio-core on github [2].

To use from Maven:

To use jai-imageio-core-standalone from a Maven project, add:

net.java.dev.jai-imageio
jai-imageio-core-standalone
1.2-pre-dr-b04-2010-04-30

and:

Dear Stian ,
just wanted to inform you that we[1] have been working since a few
years ago on a open source project called ImageIO-ext[2] whose goal is
to complement ImageIO itself with new/additional plugins.

Specifically, for TIFF support we have implemented read/write for
float/double (I think that might be of interest for you) data types
and we are also testing bigtiff.

Jars are deployed on a few maven repos and are in used in OS
geospatial projects (GeoTools, GeoServer, etc...) and also in some
commercial apps.

Long story short, I wanted to ping you about consindering joining the
effort rather than doing yet another fork for ImageIO.

Regards,
Simone.

Hi! Thanks for the information. It looks like you've got a broad list
of extensions!

I noticed that http://mvn.geo-solutions.it/it/geosolutions/imageio-ext/imageio-ext-tiff...
depends on http://mvn.geo-solutions.it/com/sun/clibwrapper_jiio/1.1/clibwrapper_jii...
- but is clibwrapper_jiio under BSD license?

In the jai-imageio-core CVS I find:

https://jai-imageio-core.dev.java.net/source/browse/jai-imageio-core/LIC...

.. the Sun Binary Code License Agreement - which I believe is not GPL
compatible. (Meaning that one can't upgrade your LGPL code to GPL
according to the LGPL license)
