If a method is deprecated.Does it mean that it will not be in use in the next release of JDK.Till when does a method remain deprecated until it is completely retired or removed from the api?

I think it all depends on API provider and how careful it is to the documentation. Usually API by Sun is more specific about when the method is deprecated and when it stop working (e.g. Servlet API: http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/2.3/javadoc/deprecated-list.html). The deprecation itself doe not mean that method will be removed.
There are method which were Deprecated in Java 1.1 which are still available.
Methods are not removed after they are Deprecated, instead it is recommended that the method not be used due to a limitation in the method (see the comments of the method for more details)
