Planned Audio Support?

Is there a timeline for when audio will be supported for the RI? More specifically, handling audio PIDs in the transport streams (e.g. when tuning), and supporting Havi sounds.

I'm currently running 1.1.3 Rel-A and don't see these.

There are currently no plans to add audio support to the RI. In addition to the technical issues, there are licensing constraints imposed by our requirement to offer all RI components under both GPL and commercial licensing terms. Let us know if you are interesting in making a contribution that could satisfy that requirement.

There are 2 issues here:

1. Support for MPEG Audio PID decoding
2. Support for HAVi HSound (via MPE Sound API).

I understand the licensing issue for #2 (codec for WAV, AIFF, MP3,etc...). But I believe support for #1 is already provided by the third-party/open-source software the RI_Platform is relying on (i.e VLC, Gstreamer).

Neither #1 nor #2 are currently supported nor planned for the RI Platform.

Our underlying media pipeline infrastructure (provided by GStreamer) supports the creation of audio decode pipelines, but we have no plans to implement them at this time. Additionally, GStreamer provides only a few basic audio format decoders -- support for other formats would have to be created from scratch (if licensing issues with the format's owner could be agreed upon).
