I am looking at the VFS Update and am curious to know, what exactly does the update do (apart from the obvious of making the downloaded assets available)?

ie is it purely a way for the player to read the buda.xml and integrate the new asset described within it, into the file system (ie map VPFilename to BUDAFile location)?

Is the update still required if an asset is already in the buda, and is replaced by a new downloaded one. In this scenario the asset already exists in the file system, so does a change in datestamp/filesize require an update?

Thanks
Adam

Look at http://www.blueboard.com/bluray/pdf/javaone2006_ts1685_v2.pdf slide 39.

VFS update adds to or replaces files on the disc from those in BUDA. After VFS update, when you try reading a disc file (that has been added or updated), it is read from BUDA without the application having any knowledge of it.

Thanks for the link.

As I suspected the update is required to integrate streams/playlists etc into the system so they can be accessed via standard locator strings.
