Using JAI in NetBeans - cannot find JAI

Hi folks,

I am trying to use JAI in one of my projects. I downloaded the two jars (version 1.1.3 for Linux as I am on Linux) - then created a new class library in NetBeans referencing those two jars (jai_linux-i586.jar and jai_imageio_linux-i586.jar).

Although it seems I can see everything from javax.imageio like ImageReader and ImageWriter I am missing the JAI package/class - NetBeans does not offer to import that in my code so I guess it does not find it.

Why can this be?

It is the complete package javax.media that I do not seem to have in my classpath.

I don't have any .so files in the downloaded jai-1_1_3 zip files. Did I miss a download?

I did not notice those folders yet. Could I put any jar in the ext folder and is that automatically added to the class path or how is this to understand?
