Simple question this time! (console output)

Dopey simple question, but I'm rather stumped. :P

I'm writing a module, and working on some 'server' code (we're trying to merge two SVG documents together). However, we seem to have hit a problem, and are pretty much blind to what is actually happening!

So, we'd like to send some messages to the console in NetBeans. How do we achieve this?

Free beer* if you find an easier way in how to merge SVG documents together than using Batik to manipulate the XML, too. :D

Matt,

Can you clarify which console you'd like the message to appear in? There are several different consoles or logs where messages could appear. Are you thinking of the console where "$ ant run-server" is executed? The console on the client that pops up when you click "launch wonderland" from the web ui?

We would like to print messages in the console that appears in netbeans, after compiling and running the server, is this possible? If not, how else can we receive an output from the code being executed on the server?

Cheers, Josh

Josh,

Hrm. What you see in the console when running the server is the output of the glassfish webrunner. I've never written to this console before. I'm not sure it's desirable if you aren't editing the glassfish build itself. A simple
System.out.println("Hello Josh!");
in server side code will produce output into the darkstar log. Likewise, the same code executed in clientside code will appear in the java console. You can view the darkstar log by following the link in the web administration page.

Maybe the best decision would be to figure out what it is you want to log and where best to put that info?

This will be just a rare thing, to see what is going on. That should be adequate, thanks for your help :D
