The downloading(/uploading) of pdf is quite persistent, the downloading will start again even I deleted the cache and restart server. So what happen is I login, I see everything loaded up in client including the download bar, then the client will become unresponsive, then the window will gray out and hang.

Local host / intranet, not cpu issue, using i7 as a matter of fact!!

How do I reset to abort the downloading?

Is pdf spreader / presnetation base unstable???

edit: I created a new user and login with it, still hang!!

Those modules are indeed unstable. We use it occasionally and have not run into the issues you are reporting though.

To get rid of the pdf spreader Cell restore from either an initial world or snapshot via Manage Worlds in the web administration ui.

I "solved" it by removing the modules.

I wonder if the pdf files I tried were either too big 1MB - 8MB, or too complicate to generate the view. A small pdf I tried had finished downloading, then hang. The larger pdf cannot even get the downloading started, but neither could I cancel the downloading!

The PDF rendering code we use is rather old (any volunteers to update it?), so it wouldn't surprise me if the renderer had problems with complex PDF files. We've had good luck, however, with PDFs generated from Open Office. Like everything else in the virtual world, if the file size or texture size is too large, there will be performance issues. When I generate PDFs for use in Wonderland, I set the "JPEG Compression" quality to 40%. This setting is an option provided by the Open Office PDF exporter, so I'm not sure what the equivalent setting is when generating PDFs from other applications.
