Whither Java?

Ok, so... involuntarily switched to a .NET project about 1.5 yrs ago, not so happy w/the architecture I see in the Windows world (business logic either in button click handlers or in the database, no object layer), wondering if I can come back to Java, and I see...

theserverside.com seems kinda dead.

this forum has only the occasional job posting (is it good that the forum isn't drowning under job postings? maybe)

So, I'm wondering: whither Java? Still a viable language? Still something worth building a career on? Are new projects being started in Java? Or should I sigh a deep sigh and just accept that Microsoft has won and drag myself back to the land of if-Microsoft-didn't-invent-it-it's-not-worth-knowing?

Anyone?

Groovy developer discussing Java, its future and mostly Scala. The comments section dives into C# vs Java, etc.

A quick query on dice.com for "Java" returned " 12560 results." I think you need to update your job searching tools. On the other hand, as an experienced Java and .NET developer, you should bring in a premium for all those business crazy enough to be moving from Java to C#, or the ones who have learned their lesson and are moving back to Java.

Java jobs are still being advertised and there is lots of Java still about. Java is my main language now and I will not be giving up on it any time soon. I came from ms VB all versions from vb for dos originally and wouldn't go back to it even .net in a hurry.
