Here is what I got with a CMYK image and the following code

BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(imageStream);
System.out.print("image = " + image + "\n");

image = BufferedImage@5dcec6: type = 0 ColorModel: #pixelBits = 32 numComponents = 4 color space = com.sun.media.imageioimpl.common.InvertedCMYKColorSpace@b25b9d transparency = 1 has alpha = false isAlphaPre = false ByteInterleavedRaster: width = 850 height = 638 #numDataElements 4 dataOff[0] = 0
