I wrote a java desktop program for a friend using Netbeans IDE 6.7.1. My friend installed and opened the program, and and everything except for the drop down boxes, check boxes, menu bar, and selected elements of a JTree are black (jtext boxes, jlabels, other jtree elements). Two buttons are also the proper default gray color, but I know there are other buttons I can't see in the screenshot he sent me.

I don't know what is wrong with the program, and I walked them through the install over the phone. My friend opened a pop up window using one of the buttons he could see, and everything except for the drop-down boxes are white. The machine my friend is running is Windows Vista 64 bit.

I reinstalled the program on my development machine (Windows Vista 64-bit) and I am not seeing any problems. I also installed it on 3 XP machines and did not see these weird patches of black. What could be happening? Where would be a more appropriate thread to post this?

Thanks!

It sounds like a bad graphics card/driver, try running the program with:
java -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false -jar yourjar.jar
More info at http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/6u10.html (new 3D pipeline bit).
