This evening (Wednesday Nov 4, 2009)I received an email from 6uNEarlyAccess @sun.com that said JSE 6 Update 17 being available. Is this a mistake?

I have a later version installed. build 1.6.0_18-ea-b03.

So when, oh when, OH WHEN will Sun get around to fixing bugs in build 1.6.0_18-ea-b03? And quit trying to get us to backgrade our installations?

Once again Sun FIX YOUR PRODUCTS faster. Please fix bug 6893812 "'Show Desktop' disables the menubar" and deliver the fix for 6889007 "No resize cursor during hovering mouse over JTable" soon to us. Plus whatever bugs have not been displayed publicly.

Thanks Anthony. I hope that the various parallel java versions converge soon to a 6u18b04 release.

Then the Sun work environment. I hope all goes well for those affected, either laid off or working more, by the latest Oct 18 layoff announcement.

Here is an interesting perspective from one of the blog posters at:

Perhaps, at last, we are giving a thought to being human. We are also thinking of education, learning, better living and so on. I rememeber a slogan at Sun:”People sell to people.” Business done with the exclusion of commitment to people is not sustainable and the events of these days are proving that.

This isn't a mistake. Different versions of JDK get developed in parallel to ensure fast delivery of features and bug-fixes. 6u18b04 is going to include all fixes available in 6u17.

The whole of Java is increasingly becoming one big mistake and it's a mistake to ask anyone at SUN to fix anything because they are always right and everybody else is wrong.

The answer is not "42" it is never. SUN is DONE. Oracle is your next best hope.
