How to get hdcookbook on USB Stick for PS3

Hi,

I am new to JAVA (normally use PHP), but would like to try out some BD-J. I have started to look around the HD Cookbook Page and found the Image disc. Since I have got no Blu-Ray burner, I would like to try it out on a USB Stick for the PS3.

I have found out so far, that a few files need to be re-named. So what I have done so far is:

1. Downloaded the Image
2. Created a folder called AVCHD on my USB Stick, in there I copied the BDMV and CERTIFICATE Folder from the d/l image.
3. Than I re-named the index.bdmv in INDEX.BDM and theMovieObject.bdmv in MOVIEOBJ.BDM

Unfortunately the PS3 does not recognise the setup. I than tried a downloaded game with this folder structure and it did start. So, this proofs, that USB Stick with PS3 works.

What else do I have to change, to get the HD Cookbook from the USB Stick running? I heard something about re-placing the index files aswell, but replacing with what? I am pretty confused and hope that someone could give me some advice. Thanks a lot in advance.

Greetings Bicko

Hi,

By trying to run the content off of a USB stick, you're running an AVCHD content, which is under it's own specification. AVCHD content's format is similar to that of BD-ROM content for HDMV mode, but AVCHD spec says nothing about BD-J mode, or supporting Java.

The last I heard, PS3 dropped the support for Java for AVCHD starting their firmware 2.50 or somewhere around that version.

When I was working on the AVCHDConverter tool (under hdcookbook/DiscCreationTools/experimental), I did get the HDCookbook contents running from a USB stick on PS3. But the firmware on that PS3 was earlier than v2.50.

Hi Chihiro ,

Thank you for your answer. As I wrote, I already tested if the USB/AVCHD content runs on the PS3 I have available and the test was successfull. The Firmware is 2.2 I think so no issue.

I have tried out a Game with the AVCHD Structure on the USB stick and it was no problem to start. Just the HDcookbook makes still problems.

I have figured out that I also had to re-name the PLAYLIST (00000.MPL), CLIPINF (00000.CPI) and STREAM (00000.MTS) files so all the endings of these files are now MPL, CPI and MTS.

I think I have to re-place the INDEX.BDM aswell, but re-place with what file? What else I have to change to get the cookbook running? Could you give me some more advice.

Thanks again. Bicko

Hi,

Yes, the INDEX.BRM content rule for AVCHD is different from that of BD-ROM. I don't remember all the details now, but the version number is different, and there has to be some extension data for AVCHD. This index.bdmv conversion is what I tried to do with the AVCHDConverter tool, so you can give it a shot...
