Binaries for WM Smartphones?

Hi,

Boy, was I excited to find this project!! But, I wonder if there is a pre-built set of binaries for MIDP 2.x on WM6 Smartphone (Moto Q9 with full keyboard)? I tried the .cab:
phoneME Feature - MIDP rev17831

But received an error that the installation failed, and the .cab wasn't intended for this phone.

Anyway, thanks for any help! I hope this project succeeds!

Hi,

The Moto Q9 seems to run Windows Mobile 6 Standard (and not Professional for those with a
touchscreen). Could you try two things:

-Try the cab for Windows Mobile 2003 (use an older version) ?
-Try the zip (unpack and run the phoneme\midp\bin\arm\runMidlet.exe binary)

I am not sure if it is the cab packaging that is to blame, or if it is the VM itself that cannot run
because I use the Windows Mobile Pocket PC SDK, and not the Windows Mobile Smartphone
SDK to make the binaries.

If you still get the installation error, do you get the error message immediately, or does it attempt
to install the cab, but you get the error a little while later. Also write down the exact error
message. I don't have a smartphone (device without touch screen) so I cannot test.

I just verified it myself by trying to install the CAB in the device emulator running the
SmartPhone edition of Windows Mobile 6. I get an installation error too, but the runMidlet.exe
binary works. I am currently not sure why the installation is failing though.

Apparently, cab files for smartphones need to be generated with cabwizsp.exe. Those generated
with cabwiz.exe won't install.

Hi Davy,

Thanks for looking into this problem. I've copied the unzipped PhoneME files over to my phone, and although they run and show the midlet installation screen, it doesn't use full screen (the softkeys are redefined, but the labels and title bar remain from the previous application, with the midlet install screen centered in a smaller space). Also, I cannot get it to find .jad/jar files, no matter where I put them. I'm sorry I don't know enough to provide better feedback. Let me know if there is something else you'd like me to try.

I don't have a smartphone device, but I noticed the fullscreen issue too when
testing with the Windows Mobile 6 Standard edition on the device emulator. I
think it is just an issue with some of the status bars whose size is hardcoded. I
think on smartphones they are a bit smaller. As a result, the height of the midlet
window is set too small and you see some parts of the window behind the
midlet. I will try to fix the issue for the next build.

Hi Davy,

Thanks, I appreciate the update. I'll check the next build and see what's new.

I have new builds on my website. I think the window height problem is fixed,
and the cab should also install on a smartphone. Let me know if you still have
problems.

Hi Davy,

Thanks for the new build. It does in fact install nicely on my Moto Q9C Smartphone, and the screen is now full size. Pretty nice.

I haven't been able to get an app to install and run, but I think that's another thread.

Again, many thanks!
