I just installed jdk1.6.0_11 (latest version available on java website). I've set the path in windows (Vista) to c:\program files\java\jdk1.6.0_11\bin (under environmental variables-"system variables". It seems that i can compile any .java files, as no errors come up when I type "javac HelloWorld.java". However, no class file is created. Greatly appreciate any feedback you guys might have..

If you are just starting I would suggest using an IDE like eclipse or netbeans. They are free and have a Run button which compiles and runs programs. And a Debug button which is handy.

In your case there could be any number of reasons for this problem, but it is more likely you need to double check your assumption that a file is not being created and there is no errors.
