As stated here at http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Mobileandembedded/BDJTitleStructure, a typical index.bdmv (translated version) looks like the one below. My questions are

1. Can firstPlaybackObject element be removed from this for a faster start of the main title?
2. Can topMenu element be removed to not have the main title restarted when the Top Menu button is pressed?
3. Can the main title's playbackType be changed from BDJPlayback_MOVIE BDJPlayback_INTERACTIVE for interactive mode in the main title?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the answers are no, no, yes.

The BD spec sets the index.bdmv syntax, BD-ROM part3-1 5.2.3.2, and both FirstPlayback() and TopMenu() objects are required. You can make both entry point to any HDMV or BDJO title, so the topMenu doesn't have to start the main menu, meanwhile. Also, perhaps there's a way for an app to intercept the Top Menu button event; not sure.

The playback type 11b in the binary format is mapped to "BDJPlayback_INTERACTIVE" string constant in the index.xml indeed.
