I just installed ASEE 8.1 in a Solaris 10 8/07 zone. When I try to start the server, I get the error in the subject line. In fact, the config/ directory itself does not exist. I think I've seen this before, but google and sunsolve aren't helping.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

MG>start contents of web.xml

Restrict access to admin pages

Administration

/admin/*

With no roles defined, no access granted

MG>end contents of web.xml

This is to protect resources under /admin

But in my test domain running on Solaris, the server didn't treat the
/admin/admin.jsp as the protected resource and instead of directing to
the login page, admin.jsp got displayed without authentication. This
seem to be a problem on Glassfish build: (build b08-p03) and works as
expected on build b05-p01.

Any pointer on what could be going on here?

Thanks,

Pavneet

Did the installation go okay? What was previously installed on this machine? Is it a fresh install or an upgrade? Is this a standalone AS installation or the one installed through Java ES? Having the log file contents would also help debug this further.

The installation appeared to finish just fine. Fresh install in a clean whole-root Solaris 10 8/07 zone. Installed via the JES installer.

I'm not entirely sure what I did, but it is installed now. I ran the JES uninstaller to remove the software. Then I pkgrm'd the AS 8.2 platform edition binaries from /usr. Re-ran the installer and the app server installed fine this time.

Glad to see that your problem is resolved. Installing Java ES on a Solaris zone requires careful considerations given that Solaris comes pre-bundled with a version of application server.(8.2 PE).

Though the following article applies to installing 9.1 version of AS into Solaris zones, you might find this very useful to refer when you are installing AS through Java ES on Solaris.
