Glad to see the new Media API for JavaFX and hope it plays well with other Java Media API's.

In particular will the Media Player work in tandem with the Java Sound MIDI Sequencer? I see the video player (containing the video only) being the slave and the midi sequencer (containing the midi only) being the master controller. This means when the sequencer starts playing it sends its micro-second position to the video player to advance the video frame. Or alternatively the video player can be the master and the midi sequencer the slave. Will this work as expected?

Also, how much access to the media types will be available? With a Quicktime Movie for instance it would be great to allow any midi tracks included in the movie to be split out, then later to be bundled together again into one movie file. Maybe asking for this level of media editing is going to far, let me know what is planned.
