When I run an applet using the next generation plugin, it ignore the _java_options and java_tool_options environment variables.
Is this by design or a defect?
It's intentional -- we explicitly remove these entries from the environment of the spawned sub-processes. As far as I remember the intent was to avoid changing the classpath of the spawned JVM in unexpected ways that could break the Java Plug-In. However, we could reconsider this. If there is a compatibility issue please feel free to file a bug.
This bug is preventing the QTP Java Add In from working properly. It appears that the bug has been fixed but I am not sure when it will be released by Sun.
Is there any indication of when this fix will be available in the JRE?
Here is the bug information --> http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6770420
Bug# 6770420 has been fixed in 6u12 build02 which will be available early next week on java.net.
