Please tell me that you're going to be creating a plugin for Google Chrome in time for the update N final release !?

It's very fast and being advertised on Google's homepage so it's going to become very popular very quickly.

I did the same thing. Firefox 3 is working fine, but Chrome cannot load any page with java, other pages are just fine.
I also did a lot of Googling today, but it seems there are not too many people with this problem.

We recently added an Help/FAQ page to java.com, we were seeing a number of questions from various sources..... since the page went up, the questions are down and hits to the page are up.....
As you know Chrome is not supported but Java seems to be generally working...... yes, there appear to be some issues......

We will be updating this page as we can:
http://java.com/en/download/faq/chrome.xml

Thank you for all of your participation on this thread.
Continue to post any issues/resolutions you may find.

Just come across this thread. To help you collect issues....
Two issues that affect my application working correctly on Chrome.

1.Java popup menus do not work correctly with Chrome. http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=937
http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5328537&tstart=0

2. Java Applet to JavaScript communication is not working.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=580
http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5204726&tstart=0

I don't know if this is Google's problem, or Sun's or how to find out.

Chrome is such a good browser, it would be good if they were fixed soon.

You may be interested in this, indicating you need Java 6.10 minimum:

I've noticed that some of my applets work but that LiveConnect does not work. I imagine this might have something to do with their rewritten javascript engine (V8). I'll try updating to the latest beta and creating a test case.

Just to add my 2 cents. I'm having the following problem with Chrome and Safari on Windows with 1.6.10 when my applet tries to download any image or html files.

java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission www.galileoriaf.com resolve)

This is the same error that is generated if you try to access my applet using Firefox 3.0 without 1.6.10. I thought since 1.6.10 fixed the problem for Firefox 3 it would have also fixed the problem for Safari and therefore Chrome, but it didn't.

Okay I'm having an issue with Java. I have it installed and noticed it is running in the google chrome taskbar. My only issue is then when I run irc on a website nothing comes up.

Alright I have the same problem loading my office RDP site. It fails to load as it cannot find JRE. I did all the things mentioned above i.e. installed JRE update 10, changed the XML file to add extra entry. It loads the Sun test page fine and Sun says java installed correctly. But my RDP site fails :(

Try uninstalling all versions of java and then just install the 1.6.0_10 version.
See if that helps.

Did that too, did not help either.

methinks i might have a fix. Looked to me like the mime type is missing from the plugins xml file. It works fine when java is called as a javascript/text but not a applet or object. After i modified this file, i revisited a java page, it asked to download the plugin. After the download it may tell you that java is already installed but go ahead and reinstall it anyway. After that you will need to refresh the page and bam! java applet. Can anyone else confirm? Copy the attached file into c:\documents and settings\%user%\local settings\application data\google\chrome\%version%\ where %user% is your user profile and %version% is the version number of installed chrome (0.2.149.27 in my case) You may need to change settings to view hidden files and folders.

I too had trouble trying to get java working with chrome. I tried to manually install update 10, but that didn't work.

The above fix works for me. I had to restart chrome, and not just hit refresh.

I had the same problem.

Google Chrome requires JRE (JDK) 6u10 currently available as Beta.

Chrome is looking pretty nifty, but not everything is up and running yet. Java is not working on my copy either.

To test it out, try running a puzzle at www.jigzone.com.

Definitely works fine for me. See attached for proof.

I'm running JDK6 Update 10 build 27 on XP 32-bit.

I'm not sure how it works though... I thought Sun develops a plugin for IE and FireFox, but Chrome is WebKit based, like Safari, which I don't believe uses a Sun plugin. Maybe WebKit has its own built in plugin somehow.

Shows how clueless I am.. from this post by Ken Russell (HotSpot/Plugin guy) http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10296305 "We (Sun) don't have much experience with Safari on Windows at this point. Going forward, the new Java Plug-In in 6u10 should work with Safari on Windows, once Safari upgrades their NPAPI and NPRuntime interfaces to the versions in Firefox 3. "

Safari and Chrome are both WebKit based, so I imagine that comment applies to Chrome too. Seems they implement the Mozilla scripting interface. Opera probably does do.

So in short, run Update 10 and everything should work.

Just so that we are all on the same page - you are talking about a first beta version of a new browser that has been released about four hours ago, right?

Yeah, that one -- the one that only runs on Vista/XP...
