[JAI-IMAGEIO] Lossless JPEG image crashing JIIO native decoder

Hi everybody,

while working with medical DICOM images, I have found a lossless JPEG image
file (embedded inside a DICOM file) which causes the native JIIO JPEG
decoder to crash.

I am testing on Windows XP with the latest daily build (July 21, 2008) of
JAI Image I/O tools. I've tried both with and without the
"clib_jiio_sse2.dll" file, but the crash is present in all cases. Please see
the attached crash reports for details.

The "malicious" lossless JPEG sample image (extracted from a medical DICOM
file), causing CLIB's decoder to crash, can be downloaded here:

http://test.neologica.it/LosslessSample.jpg

Please let me know if you want me to provide a self-contained test code
demonstrating the crash. It is a very basic "ImageRead" JAI operation using
JIIO native lossless JPEG reader.

Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Marco.

Hi Marco,

It appears to be the same problem as issue 174
https://jai-imageio-core.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=174
You might like to add yourself to the cc list of that issue, and attach
your test image there.

BTW, I have a workaround for that issue in hand and hopefully I can
push out a new build of native libraries in a near future.

Thanks,
-James

Hi James,

thank you for pointing out the existing issue, and sorry for not having
checked this first.
I've uploaded the sample JPEG bitstream (extracted from a DICOM file) which
causes the native JIIO JPEG decoder to crash.

I would greatly appreciate a new JIIO build fixing this problem, if you have
a patch in hand!

As always, thank you for your cooperation.

Regards,

Marco.
