I have downloaded demo app from the below mentioned link. I tried working on it from the emulator on my PC it works fine. But it does not work on my mobile HTC 3400. It just shows a white screen waits for 2-3 seconds and returns back to the Midlet manager.

Hi Terrance,

I am trying to run the application on HTC am not successful with it. Can you share the working version of the files.

Thanks,

Norton,

I just used a standard Windows Mobile binary and the LWUIT demo - but
I tried that 6 months ago.

Have you used one of Davy's binaries?

Best,

Does this mean we need to build a new version for HTC ? Is it possible for you'll to share a working demo version of the HTC, for the benefit of many who would read these posts later ?

Thank you.

tsurenda,

Sorry for the slow reply. I can't post my binary right now but I will try and do it soon. In the meantime, have you actually tried Davy's "phoneME Advanced Dual Stack" on

http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~davy/phoneme/downloads.htm

It should work for you - my binary is essentially the same thing.

Hi to all,
I have very weird problem also with Windows mobile. I download LWUITDemo and run on older HTC Polaris and run very well. Then I compiled source with actual LWUIT from SVN and demo stopped on loading screen (before show any form). When I switch actual LWUIT version for older (22. 12. 2008), then compiled version worked again very well. Don't you have any suggestion which change in LWUIT code can cause it? Thank you very much ...

PS: tested on few Esmertec JBed (from 20080222 to 20090217)

Hi,
please read the many discussions on using WinMo devices from HTC etc
with LWUIT. If you are aware of something specific that LWUIT is doing
that prevents it from working on HTC please open an issue.

Thanks for reply Shai. I'm just wondering that code with downloaded version of LWUIT works fine, but new not, it even not start (it stops responding on Midlet manager loading screen). Did anyone had similar experience?

PS: in emulator (WTK2.5.2 and SDK 3.0) works fine and also on Symbian phone)

Shai Almog

If you can figure out the change that triggers this we can take a look
at that.

So finally, it should be for me a waste of time to find in all lwuit source of problems. So I tryed reinstall rom on my phone and it helped. So if anyone had unresolvable problem with java, try to reinstall rom on windows mobile first. good luck ...

Hi Shai,

thanks for the quick response. I have Yahoo Go! working on my mobile and it works very smoothly.

Is this download required specifically for LWUIT.

This is just for my information.

rgds,
Suren

Shai Almog

Hi Suren,
Yahoo Go! has a completely different architecture from LWUIT where it
has a JAR tailored for every device rather than one jar for all devices.
Since the VM in HTC is so limited and is replaceable using a proper
free alternative we don't consider it a priority to workaround it
(although we would welcome suggestion/code when we go open source).
Technically most Java code will work better and faster on PhoneME
than it would on HTC's native VM, the only limitation is that PhoneME
currently doesn't ship with JSR 184 so no 3D effects...

From our experience some of the blockers on HTC's VM were so bad
that LWUIT became unusable: No transparency support, No pointer drag
events etc... These two alone limit most of our demos.

Thanks,
Shai.

Hi Suren,
the VM builtin to the HTC devices is a touch and go sort of VM. Some
devices just work while others don't, some devices have touch screen
issues and transparency issues etc...

We have a version working with the HTC touch and its working pretty
well. However, we had to install the Phone ME VM from Sun (which is
available for WinMo) to get everything working properly. Since the VM
is free this shouldn't be a problem for most users.

The current version of LWUIT has an issue with touch screen
navigation in these devices that will be patched for the next drop.

A quick google search found this download site:
http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~davy/phoneme/downloads.htm

Maybe Terrence has a better link.

Thanks,
Shai.

Hi Shai,

From below description: "phoneME Advanced Dual Stack - Foundation b77 (with MIDP support) (zip) (cab)", this looks the most appropriate to download on my phone and "cvm.exe".

Hope i am on the right track. I want to see it run on HTC, since HTC phones are gaining momentum in the PDA market (in India) and having to run our apps on HTC will be important from penetration prespective.

Thank you.

rgds,
Suren

Windows Mobile 5
phoneME Feature - CLDC rev12008 (zip) (cab)
phoneME Feature - MIDP rev12008 (zip) (cab)
phoneME Advanced - CDC b77 (zip) (cab)
phoneME Advanced - Foundation b77 (zip) (cab)
phoneME Advanced - Personal Profile b77 (zip) (cab)
phoneME Advanced Dual Stack - Foundation b77 (with MIDP support) (zip) (cab)
Note that for the pMEA PP build, the AWT will not work reliably whenever one of the unimplemented stubs is used

Shai Almog

Hi Suren,
our device was already installed so I have no idea (besides Chen has
it now so I can't check). I think that "Feature" is more appropriate
since thats a CLDC VM while the "Advanced" is the CDC VM, but I have
no idea really. Hopefully Terrence can help out here since this is
far more his domain than mine ;-)

Thanks,
Shai.

Suren,

Yes, the "Dual Stack" should work for you.

I have personally run the LWUIT demo on a HTC Touch using
phoneME Advanced with MIDP that I built from the phoneME Advanced
repository.

That stack runs fine except for some minor focus issues
between the touch screen and the directional selection key
in the middle of the device. Sometimes phoneME Advanced
seems to get confused which screen element the directional
key is focused on. I haven't had time to dig into that yet.

Hope that helps.
