Hi

There is no Java 64 bits for web-start and applets. And no easy workaround.

There is a 6 years old bug, flagged as high priority about it :
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4626735

and a 5 years old RFE (#1 on most voted RFE) too :
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4802695

I never see people so anger was that ones in above bugs.

So I ask : will this be available on Java 7 ?

quoted from #4802695
>We have not only commit this RFE to JRE 7, but also JRE 6 update release.
>The date for JRE 6 update release which has this 64bit JRE support will be early 2009.

In other words, yes.

OK So now, what is the situation? In the last build 1.6.0_12-ea-b02, we can find a lib/amd64/libjavaplugin_jni.so but I could not get anything of it from my Firefox 3. Is it supposed to be that much awaited Java plugin for 64 bits Linux? If yes, how is it supposed to work?

The instructions are here:

https://jdk6.dev.java.net/plugin2/#INSTALLATION

Replace i386 by amd64 in the path and that should do it.
