TextArea Input Validation

Hi again,

looking through the TextArea API I can't find a way to verify carets while editing. There are a number of constraints provided, which are very useful, but non of them would let me verify an IP address for example.

Will there be a ValueChangeListener or something similar in future releases?

Thanks.
Stephan

Hi Stephan,
the current text area component is really a thin layer on top of the
MIDP native input to support T9 and such.
It essentially moves to the native text input support and passes
those constraints with it. Since MIDP itself doesn't offer events or
much control we don't support them either in this input.

We intend to provide an additional TextField class in an upcoming
release which will implement "lightweight input" which will allow
true control over the widget and won't use the native widget. This
feature will be in addition to the TextArea and would not attempt to
replace it.

Currently you can write your own input component and there is a
simple example of a numeric input with blinking caret in the
developer guide, delete etc. are not supported in that example but
these are all very simple to implement.

Thanks,
Shai.
