I am aware of many of the articles and books about programming with ME, but I notice there does not seem to be a freely available version of a tutorial in the same calibar as the Java SE and Java EE tutorials available. Is there any chance of doing so?

Absolutely! I won't have much time to devote to this but I can get you started. You might also want to post a 'help wanted' note to

Would it maybe worthy of a comunnity wiki project of some type?

Maybe something like:

* Background
* Differences between SE, EE, and J2Me, JavaME
* phone ME Feature / Advance.
* Profiles, Configurations.
* Supported JSRs
* Hello World
* Basic APIs
* Advanced APIs
etc..

with lots of examples..

I haven't personally done these but SDN has learning paths and tutorials on Java ME:

http://developers.sun.com/mobility/learning/tutorial/

Let me know if these are useful.

These are good, but these are just individual articles...

I am talking a tutorial in the line of the SE tutorial ( see http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/index.html )

Granted this is an online version of a book so maybe that it part of the reason for the size of the tutorial.

Or the EE tutorial ( see http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/ )

Why isn't there a "Java ME Tutorial" in this vein?
