Hi!
I want to know if there is a free jvm which supports
*RMI
*Swing
*Media
And especially for WinCe 5.0?

I have read about Wonka,Kaffe,etc.
But I don't find necessary information shortly and clearly?

Thanks...

Hi,

There is a lot of information about bringing phoneME Advanced to various platforms on our wiki:

Unfortunately, I can;'t help you with building a Linux kernel ... that is beyond the scope of this forum. You should refer to the various Linux forums for that.

As for uClinux: phoneME Advanced requires a kernel with a process model and memory isolation. I seem to remember uClinux doesn't satisfy those requirements but I may be wrong.

Hi,

I think you are mixing Windows CE and Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile 6 is the latest version and that is generally used for mobile devices. Applications for version 5 will run fine on version 6.

As for the price, I am not sure what you mean by $40. Certainly you can't be a smart-phone for $40 regardless of the operating system - so I am a bit confused.

Linux: You indicate you have little experience with Linux. In that case I would recommend not going with a Linux device - Linux almost always requires you to "fiddle" with the system to customize it. Building and installing a new Linux kernel and phoneME stack is a non-trivial task that I don't think is appropriate for beginners.

Hi again,
I am not mixing Windows Ce and Mobile. Now I have WinCe 5.0 on my via epia mini-itx sbc and I have been using Java CreMe jvm trial version. But Phoneme does not support WinCe 5.
And I am not sure the price of Windows Mobile per-device,too.I mean its license fee per-device.
And please help about linux!!!
My questions:
1-)I have downloaded Linux Kernel 2.6 tar.But I use Windows XP.And how can i make linux image?
2-)How can i install this image?
In fact ,it's better to say like this:
Would you explain which version must I download and what are the real steps for installing?
Give me a chance to me for using Linux;)
Thanks.

Hi there,

phoneME Advanced

https://phoneme.dev.java.net/content/phoneme_advanced_r2.html

support CDC (including RMI), Windows Mobile 5.0, and very soon something very Swing-like (watch the announcements on the M&E Community).

As for media, because there are so many media formats, you'd need to be more specific.

Thanks for reply!
I'm very glad for learning that there is a free jvm like phoneme.
But sorry for no supporting WinCe 5.0.

I have researched for Windows Mobile 5.0. But unfortunately,i have read about its price is nearly $40 per-device,is it true?

So I have decided to use linux. But I have only a little idea about this os.Almost no serious knowledge.
Can you explain which versions of linux are supported from phoneme Feature?
And how can i install ex. linux kernel 2.6 to the sbc board?
Or if my questions are too much, can you suggest any useful links?
Regards...
