Using IE 7, Vista x64, JRE 6 update 6 installed. JRE comes up in system tray when I go to a page testing the Java applet support. Like --

Installed JRE 6 update 10 build 22, and the JRE does not come up in the system tray, and applet support fails in IE 7. Works fine in Firefox.

This same problem occurs with build 22. Firefox works fine, not Java support in IE 7.

On a lark I installed and tried IE8 beta 1, that causes the JRE to appear in the system tray, the box for the applet appears ont he screen, but it gets an error ClassNotFoundException when you click for the error details. This happens on any simple java applet web site I could find.

Sounds like there is some sort of security inconsistency between the JRE and IE in 64 bit IMHO...
