Hello.
I am writing a new application that should be downloaded and installed automatically from a browser.
Can I download and execute an installation file from an applet?
If so - how should this be done?
Thanks
Itai

The webstart mechanism is typically used for this. It uses JNLP descriptor files that can be hyperlinked in the browser, as such a complete desktop application can be downloaded and installed including the required Java runtime.
You don't need to use an applet to perform the installation form inside a webpage.
