Playstation 3, BDMV and BD-RE

Hello,
I recently invested in a PS3, Burner and BD-RE discs for testing my development. However all is not well. The PS3, like many other players, does not want to play a BDMV folder structure burned straight to the disc. There are a few threads online, mainly from the 'backup' community, who have found that the PS3 *does* play this structure if burned with Roxio DVDit Pro and a PS3 patch. Presumably some bits need to be set on disc during the burn which are not covered by a normal UDF2.50 burn.

I have personally found this not to work, burning the HD Cookbook sample project leaves the PS3 in a black screen state. However, I burned a quick, test Roxio DVDit project and this DID work on the PS3, showing menus and video

This proves to me that it is possible to have the PS3 play the BDMV format, even with the latest 2.10 firmware. I would really like to achieve making the HD Cookbook project play, before going ahead with my own project.

I'm sure I won't be the only person to face this hurdle. Being such a widely deployed player, the PS3 makes a fair and cost effective test platform... that is, if only it would work :-)

Any ideas on the fineries of burning a BDMV to a BD-RE?
Might answers lay in the correct treatment of the AACS and CERTIFICATE folders? I tried using these folders from the Roxio project that worked, alongside the BDMV from the Cookbook project, to no effect.

I am documenting my exact trials on the following thread:

Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi Darkmoon,

There's a "cpistrip" tool at our repository's "trunk/tools/cpistrip" section to enable exactly this. Please see the README there for details.

It works! Wow, that's a good feeling, I was beginning to worry that my PS3 was locked out of BDMV. Obviously this is the best informed place on the net ;-)

I tested this on a home authored HDMV project which now works perfectly.

My PS3 will still not play the 'HD Cookbook' project image, copied from the DVD-ROM and CPI stripped. I think it hangs on the Java, and there is some suggestion on here that 00004.jar may need signing, so I will try this when I get home tonight and report back.

Thanks again for the quick reply Chihiro.

Glad to hear so!

Try with the image available at:

https://hdcookbook.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList
2007_10_hdcookbook_disc_image_no_jar_bdjo.zip

This image already have the cpi bit modified. You'll have to add the 4 jars, bdjo and the certificate file built from our hdcookbook repository into it.
