I just tried to install the kernel for b12 on a Vista x64 machine and recieved an error "Error unzipping files" and it did not install. It worked successfully on Windows XP and Server 2003 32-bit.

This is most likely because there is no X64 version of JRE with plug-in support available as yet.

However, Java still can be used in Vista x64 but with the default browser, which is
IE 32-bit. This means 32-bit Java is fully functional in Vista X64 with IE 32-bit

The 64-bit Java (the one labeled AMD64) will install in Vista x64 but gives you no browser (i.e., IE 64-bit) support.

Can you be more specific with the version (executable) that you have tried to install from? Also, a log file with this install would be more useful in evaluation.
