Hi,

I saw several references to http://rdv.jxtahosts.net seeds to start connecting to other peers, relays and rendez-vous:

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/httpRdvsProd.cgi
http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/routersProd.cgi

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/rendezvous.cgi?2
http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/relays.cgi?2

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/rendezvous.cgi?3

Some people say some are not valid anymore, other say the opposite.

Does anyone know what is official and what is not? Which references are valid?

Thanks,

J.

As Henry mentioned the two current public seeding URLs are :

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/rendezvous.cgi?3
http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/relays.cgi?3

for the public rendezvous and relay servers. The CGI script can also produce the same information in an older format used for JXSE 2.4.1 and JXTA-C at :

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/rendezvous.cgi?2
http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/relays.cgi?2

The "?3" format allows the edge peers to connect to the JXTA network much more efficiently than the older "?2" format and it should be used whenever possible. The "?2" format will be retained for backwards compatibility for the indefinite future (basically until it can no longer be supported). ALL OTHER "rdv.jxtahosts.net" SEEDING URLS ARE OBSOLETE AND NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK.

It's also quite important that the seeding addresses be used only in a dynamic way. Applications should not be loading the seeding URL and saving the results. The results returned are dynamic. The list of peers CAN and WILL change over time. It is very important that the results returned by accessing one of the seeding URLs are used only immediately and cached no more than a couple of minutes.

Hallo,

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/httpRdvsProd.cgi
http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/routersProd.cgi

whats about them.

They are just discovering the same groups like the other links.

Anything not public about them?

What officially is public or not public even it is publicly reachable, and
publicly found in the internet.

Anyway that is quite an exiting discussion here, should make some more
essays about that.

Hm,

Those are obosolete JXTA 1.0 addresses. They should not be used. They may become unsupported at any time.

These are the official addresses:

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/rendezvous.cgi?3
http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/relays.cgi?3

and for backwards compatibility:

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/rendezvous.cgi?2
http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/relays.cgi?2

Please ignore all other addresses.

I'm pretty sure all of those references are correct... if you click through them in your browser, it returns the lists of relays/rdvs. If you want to check that a particular relay/rdv is up and running, you can also try click through to the HTTP ones listed from the seeds in your browser.

Generally the relays and rdvs are all usually running on the same IPs addresses, 192.18.37.36...39 on 9700 and 9701, tcp and http.

Hi,

I have obtained more answers from the dev mailing list:

http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/relays.cgi?3

are the official seeding for JXTA PubNet giving the new seeding format.

The ?2 versions are returning the old format for backward compatibility.

I am not aware of the first 2 urls.

Cheers,
Henry"

Cool, thanks Henry for the extra clarification.

I've noticed http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/httpRdvsProd.cgi seems to redirect to http://rdv.jxtahosts.net/cgi-bin/rendezvous.cgi?2

and the other one seems to be dead.

Hallo,

why don´t you just test it, if you don´t believe me.

My application is working with the one I wrote you
already.

bye

Of course I can test you URLs, but this does not answer my question. The issue is about what you can rely on in the future as opposed to what you can rely on on a temporary basis...
