I am having trouble downloading Java runtime early access b11 from Sun. This is the URL https://jdk6.dev.java.net/6uNea.html This page says everything is b11 but actual JRE is B10.
1) offline install generates a 404 file not found.
2) online install downloads and installs OK but when verifying the version, it appears to be B10. The java test site http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml reports the online install to be 1.6.0_10.ea.

Yes Roger,

Its probably the same bug. A very very very minor bug. Keep working on the bigger bugs.

Then I hope B12 comes out sometime soon.

Thanks,

Roger

Regarding "2. b11 still opens with IE and not Mozilla Minesweeper 3.0b4pre"

This occurred during the last stage of the b11 install when the web information prompt came up. Clicking "yes" invoked IE.

Have a great weekend, hope java final release comes quickly!

Hi Jim,

Please provide detail steps in how to reproduce your issue. I tried to reinstall 6u10-b11 and I do not see IE invoked. Please specify the steps to reproduce the issue.

Thanks,
Roger Y.

Hi Roger,

I reloaded both the compiler and the runtime.
1. Java Compiler wanted IE. That's this file
jdk-6u10-ea-bin-b11-windows-i586-p-24_jan_2008 67,434 KB

2. Runtime did not need to open a browser. That's this file
jre-6u10-ea-bin-b11-windows-i586-p-24_jan_2008 14,126 KB

An interesting note on a Runtime install error and IE. Runtime install error delivers a prompt screen that has a check box for IE. I caused a runtime install error by
A. installing full java compiler with default options. NO REBOOT.
B. Tried to install runtime but got an error. This is when the prompt for starting IE came up.
After an reboot, the runtime install was OK.

Thanks,
Jim Burke

I went to http://gameswizard.com/j_jvmine.html with my Firefox browser 2 & 3, the applet loads fine within the firefox browser. I don't see IE being bought up. Could you please provide more information about how to reproduce the issue?

Thanks,
Roger Y.

Jim,

Please run the 'java -version' command, from the command line. This will show you the full string of the release that you are using.............

build 1.6.0_10-ea-b11
................... ^...........^
....................|............|
.............update.......build

If you still believe that you have build 10, please:
1. Provide the output of 'java -version'
2. Provide the URL that you used to download the binary

Thanks,
Roger

The 6u10 Build 11 offline file has been restored.

This download link now works.

Thanks Roger,

I downloaded b11 and everything is fine. Version reports 1.6.0_10-ea-b11. Yippie! Two most minor items. But don't get distracted by these and keep your eyes on the important issues.

Minor stuff . . . .
1. The java testing web page http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml says "not using current version" Makes me wonder b10 vs b11 when the web page says 1.6.0_10ea. I don't know if version build numbers are reflected or even can be reflected.
2. b11 still opens with IE and not Mozilla Minesweeper 3.0b4pre.

Thanks for the hard work behind the scenes to restore from the server crash. Thanks too for making java great. I look forward to the final release.

Thanks,
Jim Burke

Thank you for your persistence and patience :)

1. Ahhhhhhhh, yes, we know the testVM applet does not show the correct messaging. It also only has a simplistic view that does not show the full version string. These changes are underway and should be available soon.

2. We will need to look into this issue.

Thank you again,
Roger

jjburke,

The offline installer is unavailable due to the server outage, the restore is still in process, also, there is a message on the top of https://jdk6.dev.java.net/6uNea.html. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The online installers should not be affected by this outage as it is on a separate server. We will make sure that it is still working correctly.

We just tested the online installer and it installed 6u10 build 11 (b11).

URL:
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/GetFile/1.6.0_10-ea-b11/windows-i...

Output:
C:\Documents and Settings\user>java -version
java version "1.6.0_10-ea"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-ea-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b11, mixed mode, sharing)

If something was missed and build 10 is somehow being installed, please let us know.

Hi Jim,

The "Test JVM" page does NOT provide the build number. It ONLY shows the feature release number and update release number.

To see the build number you need to run "java -version", and you should see:
java version "1.6.0_10-ea"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-ea-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b11, mixed mode, sharing)
where the 2nd line indicates it is build 11.

Regards,
Roger Y.
