Hello everyone,
I have updated the FilmStrip component, should now run properly under java5. I have also checked in the sources into my repository directory, and put a new demo online at
https://jdnc-incubator.dev.java.net/demos/cuswatesl/filmstrip/filmstrip....

Nick.

Watched the demo. Great filmstrip. Like to implement it in my own project, but cannot find additional documentation/code/jars on how to implement it. Where can i find this.

You need to look in cuwatesl's directory in the jdnc-incubator project.

Great - and fast.

Give me some days (back to work, unfortunately), and I'll for sure
try it and give you some feedback.

Good stuff Nick. Maybe we can add the filmstrip to the LoyaltySuite project we both are working on. In secret of course, because Jan Willem would get pissed if we do this so close to the deadline. Yuh!

I've put up a JList-based filmstrip demo on,
https://jdnc-incubator.dev.java.net/demos/cuswatesl/filmstrip/listfilmst...
This version is also in my incubator, except for argument checking on some methods and documentation updates, it is completely done.

Hi Nick

This latest demo is failing on my machine (OS X, Tiger, Java 5)
java.lang.Exception
at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.continueLaunch(Launcher.java:915)
at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.handleApplicationDesc(Launcher.java:522)

at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.run(Launcher.java:165)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:613)

The prior demo did work, however.

Regards
Patrick

Nope, it still doesn't work with Mac OS X. I'm attaching all the
information from the JWS. Frankly speaking I don't understand where
the problem is.

An error occurred while launching/running the application.

found it, version="1.5+"/> should not have been

it runs now for me after forcing jre5 (using version="1.5" and not 1.5+ ) under jre5

Java Web Start 1.6.0_10-ea
Using JRE version 1.5.0_14 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM

so it should finally work now.

Question: would it be possible to have FilmStrip to extend JList,
FilmStripCellRenderer "match" in some way to ListCellRenderer and
FilmStripModel be able to delegate to a ListModel? I see that It
would make sense not only because a film strip vieweri indeed is a
list, but because it would make it much easier integration. For
instance, NetBeans RCP has its own viewers, which deliver some really
important models, but some of them are based on a JList that can be
easily replaced. Furthermore, having FilmStrip to become or extend a
JList would deliver for free a grid viewer.

I agree, that was one of the later goals. At first I wanted to create a component, without possible bounds created by superclasses, so it could expand indepenendty. I think it has reached a point now where it is indeed more desirable to make it a list.
I will start exprerimenting with that soon, i'll keep you updated.
