6u10-b09: Version string breaks version checking algorithms

For 6u10-b09 the version string is the following "1.6.0_10-ea". I have noticed that the "-ea" part of the string breaks applets/applications that parse/check the java version number.

Must the "-ea" exist in the version string?

The two example sites that break are

http://www.us.map24.com/
meetingplace

Example error from meetingplace

Error parsing build java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "10-ea"

Hi atehrani,

The use of 'ea' conforms our release history. We use a couple different terms to help distinguish where we are with a release. These have been used for a long time, and will most likely continue to be used. There are other parsers out there, I have one of my own, that include these terms. So removing them could break other parsers.

Here are some of the terms we have used:
ea - Early access
beta - beta
rc - Release Candidate

Here is what a couple "java -version's " looked like before the 6.0 (or 1.6.0) release was final:

b38/binaries/solaris-sparc/bin(97) >./java -version
java version "1.6.0-ea"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.6.0-ea-b38)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-ea-b38, mixed mode)

/b59f/binaries/solaris-sparc/bin(119) >./java -version
java version "1.6.0-beta"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.6.0-beta-b59f)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-beta-b59f, mixed mode)

b99/binaries/solaris-sparc/bin(128) >./java -version
java version "1.6.0-rc"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-rc-b99)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-rc-b99, mixed mode)

Thanks for the quick response. In this case the vendors need to be contacted to modify the way they parse the version string. I will attempt to do so, but I don't anticipate much of a response from either of them.

-ea in the version string will be removed when 6u10 FCS.
