mapping application - scrolling and tiles array
I'm looking to include some sort of google maps clone into one of my midlets.
I've decided to use the game API to have the ability to use tiled layers.
The needed map tiles should be downloded asynchronously from my server when needed.
I want my users to be able to scroll smoothly on the maps pretty much in the google maps way.
My main problem comes when I need to define the tiles array at closer zoom levels. for example if I am on a very big map scale (closer to the ground) there will be thousands of tiles needed to cover the entire globe and I'm pretty sure that no regular phone will handle such a big array.
So how do the google guys do it?
What strategy would you use to do this ?
