[OT] Need j2ee 1.3 sdk

A bit off-topic and perhaps an odd question, but I need the j2ee 1.3
sdk, and after digging around on Sun.com for a while, I am completely
unable to find it.

We have an old project that we're going to start migrating into JEE5
soon but want to use the verifier tool to tell us about things that
were done wrong in the original project so they can be fixed before we
start the migration. I'm certain there are some issues with the old
code but it has been running fine in production for some years now, so
perhaps that it is a testament to the J2EE container it is deployed
into!

After a bit of digging, I was able to find the j2ee 1.4 sdk (120mb).
But the j2ee 1.3 sdk eludes me...

Anyone got a link to download it? We may just rewrite things but I'd
like to run verifier on the project either way, for fun.

Thanks.
Wayne

You should be able to run verifier that comes with GlassFish. Have you
tried running the same?

Thanks,

Just as an aside, why do you care if it validates against 1.3 if you're going to port it to JEE 5?

JEE 5 is pretty backward compatible with JEE 1.3.

Why not simply work towards getting your current application deployed in a JEE 5 container as is, and verifying its deploy against a JEE 5 container rather than being concerned whether it's compatible with a 1.3 container. At most you may have to tweak the descriptors, but a JEE 5 container should run your application just fine (of course there are always cross container nits and details that can get in the way outside of the spec itself).

At the end, you'll have your app up and running in the JEE 5 container and you can then proceed to incrementally port your app over. No reason to slam dunk and do the entire thing.

Just a thought.

I appreciate the comment, and this is likely what will happen in
actuality. The original app was built rather haphazardly by a few
people as something of a RAD that turned into the real final app due
to time constraints etc.

All the same, I am interested in getting the j2ee 1.3 sdk, and it
claims to be available on the Sun.com website but all I have found is
the API docs and tutorial. So while I appreciate your pragmatism, the
question remains -- where can the j2ee 1.3 jdk be downloaded? And if
it has been removed from the Sun.com website, was this intentional or
merely an oversight? Hopefully this email will find its way to someone
at Sun who knows.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of this page :

http://java.sun.com/javaee/downloads/previous/index.jsp

You'll find links for the J2EE 1.3 and J2EE 1.2 SDKs

Wayne Fay

I saw those links... and while the j2ee 1.2 link does allow you to
download the SDK, the j2ee 1.3 link has no such download available.

When you actually click on the j2ee 1.3 link, you'll find:
Java Pet Store Demo 1.3.1
Designing Enterprise Applications with the J2EE Platform, Second Edition book
FCS Release, 1.3 Tutorial for the J2EE SDK (Tutorial HTML etc)
Specifications 1.3 - Final Release (PDF)

Whereas in the j2ee 1.2 link:
Java 2 Software Development Kit, Enterprise Edition, 1.2.1 release (the
J2EE Platform Specification, 1.2 - Final Release

I clicked the 1.2 link and changed the url until I found the correct
page (not linked from anywhere else that I've found):
http://java.sun.com/j2ee/sdk_1.3/

Perhaps someone who works for Sun could see that this is re-linked on
the j2ee 1.3 download page?

Thanks.
