Hi,
I've been having problems with reading some jpeg files. In this specific case both images on the address ftp://201.17.161.70/tabela/dscf0432.jpg and dscf0433.jpg are usually opened on internet explorer or picture manager (windows XP), but when I read on Imageio the image dscf0433.jpg, the program freezes on line 46 im = ImageIO.read(inameurl);(quando URL) or line 86 im = r.read(0); (quando no HD), and any exception is showed. In this moment CPU operates 100%. I believe that the image was damaged while being copied from a read card to system Linux. The program below was executed on Windows XP and Linux (Suse). Are there any mistake on this code?

It doesn't look as if there is anything wrong with the test code: I was able
to run it successfully on Solaris-Sparc.

Are you saying that it fails on both Linux and on Windows? What version of
Java SE are you using? Are you using the Image I/O Tools JPEG reader or the
one in Java SE? If you are using the Image I/O Tools reader which version of
Image I/O Tools are you using?

Hi Brian,
Yes, the problem occurs with Linux and Windows. I used Sun JDK 1.6.0 and jai-imageio 1.1.
System.err.println(r.getClass().getName()); return.sun.media.imageioimpl.plugins.jpeg.CLibJPEGImageReader
I don't mind filing the defect issue. I'm going to do it.
Thank you.

Yes that is definitely Image I/O Tools.

Thanks. I could have done it but having a project member file it makes it more
likely to get fixed.

I had a similar problem last year, you might want to check if it's
the same of you.

Actually it does look as if using the JAI Image I/O Tools JPEG reader on
Solaris-Sparc causes the application to stall. Would you mind filing a DEFECT
issue here

https://jai-imageio-core.dev.java.net/issues/enter_bug.cgi?issue_type=DE...

and include your test case and the dscf0433.jpg image as attachements?

Thanks,

Brian
