JXTA use custom Socket

I have an implementation of a Socket and ServerSocket classes which have the same public interface as the java.net.Socket and java.net.ServerSocket. My custom Socket and ServerSocket classes allow an external computer to request and establish a connection to a computer that is behind a NAT (it does this using NAT hole-punching and a third party server). I would like to have JXTA take advantage of these Socket classes but I am not sure how to go about it other than creating a custom/modified version of the JXTA library (I would like to avoid this if possible). Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't know of any reason why they couldn't be integrated into the JXSE core. The first step is to become an Observer on the JXSE project and propose an enhancement patch in issuezilla. Normally Developers are approved for the JXSE project after a few successful patches so it might be that for your first patch one of the patch reviewers/Developers will do the actual commit following review.

Right now we're just finishing up the JXSE 2.5 release (very soon, promise!) but now is the perfect time to get started with a major contribution like this!
