How could I increase the size of a file upto 1.5 GB in Java using Command Line on JDK 1.4 ?
java -Xms?m -Xmx?m
What are the values which needs to specified in place of ?
Thanks in advance
Hmmm, the "file" thing is a bit confusing as to what you mean. Do you mean the heap size in java? If you wanted 1.5 gig heap you could do:
java -Xmx1536m -Xms256m
That will give you a max heap of 1.5 GB with an initial heap of 256 megs.
I would be really greatful to you if you would let me know how did you calculate the values for the -Xmx1536m and -Xms256m ?
After all these years, I am responding only to gain closure in my post.
1536MB is equal to 1.5GB.
1024MB = 1GB
512MB = 0.5GB
1024MB + 512MB = 1536M = 1.5GB
256MB is just a low initial heap size for you. I just thought, hey, 256MB is a nice number, which is equal to 1/6 of your max heap. And that number was arbitrary.
