Hi there,
I just compiled the default HDCookbook project and tried playing it in PowerDVD Ultra. However, I get and Error 8090000A. What player are you using to test the projects? Any recommendations?

There are several for sale, but we also have a free version
in the hdcookbook repository - tools/jarsigner, if memory serves.

Cheers,

By the way, that's documented in the file "player_workarounds.txt".

The BD-J spec and guidelines are quite explicit: Signing a
file that contains assets (and not code) is not required. Signing
00004.jar, which just contains images and sounds, should be considered
a workaround, and not a recommended practice.

BTW, the reason for this is that it's slower to read things out
of a signed JAR. Assets can be big, so you usually don't want
to sign them.

Hi,
I am a new guy to BD and java.
I have made some BD J application and want to run on cyberlink player. I have all the required files and arranged as per the specification. But, cyberlink player doesn't play them. It shows a blank screen. I think signing will help me run my project on cyberlink. When I browse thru the repo., I found the signing tool. But, there are so many docs and I have got confused what to do. Please let me know in laymans term.
Sorry for the trouble.

Hi Sam,

I just updated the README.txt file at tools/bdsigner in our hdcookbook repository, to include some instruction on how to use this tool. Could you please try it out and let me know if it's clear enough for you to use?

Thanks,
Chihiro

No, we haven't really worked with VFS yet. We're hoping to get the credentials working for the our BDSigner next, to allow xlets share files.

Thanks,
Chihiro

Just to follow up on this...

Let me first say a little bit about NDA agreements. Here at Sun, we've signed
NDAs with some of the player makers, so in public places like this forum, we
need to be careful about talking about things like player bugs. The careful reader
might notice that the Sun folks here haven't said anything about what player the
workaround from the player_workarounds.txt file in hdcookbook.dev.java.net is
referring to.

With that said, here's some new text in that file that might be of interest ;-)

Since the report of this bug, we've received a pre-release
version of the player in question that fixes this bug, so this
workaround will soon be obsolete. Please remember that signing
an asset file is generally not recommended, because it increases
launch time.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Peter,

Have you tried applying the workarounds described at trunk/player_workarounds.txt? I don't know what it means to get Error 809000A, but we do know that the image doesn't work properly on certain players. As described in that document, we have not applied workarounds to the
repository code.

If it doesn't work, could you describe in more detail what the failure condition is?

Thanks,
Chihiro

Hi Sam,
the sign tool is part of the hdcookbook svn code. just check out the code, follow the build instructions and add the 00004.jar to the list of signed jars, according to player_workarounds.txt in the project root in order to get the projec to play in PowerDVD.

Cheers
