It is supposed to guarantee the delivery. But my testing indicates that there are some implementation flaws. When you send a large amount of data too fast, you will face possible loss of data and/or unexpected exceptions.
You may need to develop some simple flow control at your application level. As long as you don't stress the pipe too much, it works fine.
If you are not satisfied with that approach, by the way, it is not hard at all to develop your own reliable pipe on the top of a JXTA pipe. I did it. I guess you can grab some good well established flow control algorithms from the Internet for free.
