Can anybody tell me what the difference is between project manager and technical project manager?

It seems to me that the two roles are very similar. Can you imagine a situation where both of them is needed in a project?

Hello Bolza

A project manager might have overall ownership of a project that might include technical and non technical aspects such as people management, planning, requirements gathering, usability testing, manuals, budgets etc.

A technical project manager (an there might be more than one) would look after the technical aspects of a project on behalf of a non technical project manager such as coding, testing, hardware etc.

Hope this makes sense.

Can you give me an example, please? I can not see the real difference because this is too general for me.
