Strange far clipping plane behavior

I set the far clipping plane using:
_scene.getViewer().getView().setBackClipDistance(_bounds.getRadius()*4);

_scene is a SimpleUniverse

When I zoom out far enough or enter a point with large coordinates (200, 100,50), the OrbitBehavior stops responding. As anyone else encountered similar problems and know of any solutions

check your orbit behavior´s schedulling bounds.
I guess it´s too short for you.

Also do not exagerate your back clip. You may loss z-buffer precision when using 16bits depth buffer. There is a recent thread about it.

I tried making the scheduling bounds radius for the orbit behavior larger than the far clipping plane but it still locks up.
